Courtney is a native of North Carolina and holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Bryan School of Business and Economics at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Following her successful eight-year tenure to deliver an innovative vision and strategic focus to significantly expand Wayside’s financial position and mission impact, Courtney led the merger of two Kansas nonprofits to form Great Plains SPCA where she served as President & CEO for over six years. Under her leadership, the budget grew by 290%, the mission impact by 350% and she expanded the organization’s physical footprint on both sides of the state line. In addition, she elevated the organization on the national map, leading industry best practices groups to help other organization’s flourish.

Courtney’s area of expertise has been in business turnaround – both of the financial and cultural P&L’s. In February of 2017, Courtney took the helm at Central Exchange to enhance and execute a new strategic plan to advance the organization through 2020. Within her first eight months, she led a complete organizational revitalization campaign, unveiling a new vision, mission, logo, website and membership model. Within 18 months, she shifted budgeted losses of $539K to a positive net income of $68K.

In 2019, Courtney was nominated for the Athena award and in 2017, Courtney received the Silver Stevie Award for “Female Executive of the Year” in the nonprofit sector. In 2013 KC Magazine named Courtney as one of Kansas City’s most influential people and that same year she received the Rising Star Award from Nonprofit Connect.
